Contributor's Corner: What Films Are You Most Thankful For?
During the dawn of Viddy Well, we asked each interested contributor to fill out the same questionnaire. The questions spanned from grave to goofy, but the replies were nearly always unexpected. This week we'll take a look at the following question:
What films are you most thankful for?
Julia Stecyk:
Pre-Code films because those films got away with so much, and the films had their own "beat." The plots were ingenious and thought-provoking, but still whimsical and easy to follow in most cases.
Blake Haughton:
It's hard to be thankful for just one set. See, I think that it's a lot easier to idolize and internalize fiction, than it is reality. So, it's not really just a few films that I can be thankful for. I'm also totally not going to a total nerd and answer fucking Star Wars AGAIN.
Anthony Cleveland:
Movies that inspire people to do good or do more with their lives, whatever that may be.
Brenda Torres:
I'm thankful for films that depict life experiences or struggles I personally haven't endured like Moonlight. I think we all gain a little more compassion for others after seeing movies like that.
Aaron Haughton:
I'm thankful for the films that seek out to give your something that you've never seen before and don't succumb to the daft rehashing of the things that came before. Films like The Wizard of Oz, Holy Mountain, Gummo, A Clockwork Orange, Alien, Bladerunner, and Being John Malkovich, just to give a few examples. All of them strive to do something different, and I’m very appreciative of that.
