Top 5: Most Iconic Movie and Drink Pairings Of All Time
List by Anthony Cleveland
Every once and awhile a film comes along that writes a specific alcoholic beverage into the script that becomes synonymous with the finished product. If you’re anything like me, you frequently like to enjoy a cocktail (or 6) while watching a film, and on occasion, prepare the same drink that makes its cameo in the film. Below is our list of the most iconic movie/drink pairings of all time. Line em up, and suck em down!
- 5: Tequila Slammer - Hard Boiled
To anyone who's not seen the film, the iconology of this beverage may be lost, but if you've seen it, it's unforgettable. The beauty of this one is that it's messy, it's interactive, it's fun, and it'll get you drunk! To the drinker’s own discretion, Begin with a shot of tequila in a highball glass. Carefully pour in ginger ale, trying your best to avoid any fizzing. Next, put a napkin over the top, and SLAM. Drink up!
- 4: Chianti - The Silence of the Lambs
This pairing comes from one of the most quotable lines from the film. While we never see Hannibal enjoying the referenced beverage, it definitely sticks in your mind. It's one of the easiest beverages on on the list to prepare too, unless you forget your corkscrew.
- 3: Whiskey - Any western ever
Few things go hand in hand like the western and whiskey. It's the hard liquor known for putting the proverbial hair on your chest, embodying the qualities of masculinity, which is part and parcel with the gun-totting frontier genre. Take off the lid and hit it straight from the bottle.
- 2: White Russian - The Big Lebowski
Like whiskey and the western, the Dude and the White Russian go hand in hand. It's hard not to crave one of the Dude's Russians while watching the film. Fill a highball or short glass with ice, add two parts vodka, one part Kahlúa, add a splash of half and half (or milk), and transcend to zen.
- 1: Vesper - James Bond
Ahh, the Vesper; shaken, not stirred. It makes an appearance in every James Bond film, and is easily one of the most iconic drinks associated with a film. To prepare, combine 1/2 ounces vodka, 2 ounces of gin, 1/4 ounces Lillet Blonde into a martini shaker filled with ice. Shake until it's ice cold, then strain into a deep martini glass, and garnish with a thin slice of lemon peel. You can tell from scene below from Casino Royale that the drink is a must-have.
Honorable Mentions:
- The Boilermaker - Bad News Bears
As seen in the opening scene, all you need is a can of partially empty Budweiser filled to the top with some Jim Beam whiskey.
- Scotchka - The Room
This honorable mention is a horrid concoction that contains exactly what's in the name: Scotch and Vodka. Sure to deliver a promising hangover or the pukes!
