Amsterdam: A Star-Studded Mess That Pales In Comparison To Other O. Russell Films
Writer/director David O. Russell’s latest effort, Amsterdam, is a sprawling, star-studded mess that’s too overstuffed and unwieldy to fully connect. It contains one of the year’s most impressive ensemble casts, but for all its combined star power, it sadly can’t muster up much of a charge. It’s undeniably a David O. Russell film, but it’s drained of most of the lifeblood that makes his best work compelling, charismatic, and kinetic.
